2021 Teachers of the Year

Join the Rotary Club of Florence, serving all of Boone County (@FlorenceRotary), on Monday, April 26, 2021, at noon as the Rotary Club announces the Teacher of The Year winners and recognizes all the hard work the teachers have put in during the pandemic. Here are the winners as well as the work they have done that exemplifies Rotary’s motto of “service above self”.
Carrie Mayer from Walton Verona High School. She was nominated by the Principal of Walton Verona High School

and colleagues who had many great things to say about the work Mrs. Mayer during in the past two years. The Principle of Walton Verona, Adam Nash describes Mrs. Mayer as a top-notch teacher who provides many opportunities for students to excel through the extracurricular pathways she oversees. She has always been the first to volunteer at any event that needs workers, all while preparing and celebrating her own sons’ graduation during 2020!
Susan Hartman from New Haven Elementary. She was recommended by many colleagues who all had great things to say about her. She exemplifies the art of adapting her teaching methods
to the students needs. She has spent countless hours beyond the school day to support students and families in a variety of needs, whether it be academic, social, or emotional. Mrs. Hartman has been described as a role model for all her colleagues and students to work hard and go above and beyond.
Stephanie Erwin from St. Paul School. She is a teacher representative for their parent teacher organization, she organizes the family trivia nights, coordinates the Mikes Car Wash fundraiser, volunteers at every fish fry, and is always willing to serve in the community even after a full week of work. Mrs. Erwin was a crucial member in developing an NTI plan before the governor mandated all schools to be closed after Thanksgiving. Stephanie Erwin continuously exemplifies Rotary’s “Service Above Self” motto.
Amber Bowen from Boone County High School. She works with a “students first” mindset, which builds the kind of
relationships that cultivate individualized instruction and maximize student achievement and success. One of Ms. Bowen’s colleagues shared she was at school engaging her students virtually, while also watching her own kids who were at home doing their schoolwork, on another computer. Ms. Bowen exemplifies “service above self” daily.
